PHSE at Bruce Grove Primary

Rationale

At Bruce Grove Primary, our PSHE curriculum, develops learning, and results in the acquisition of knowledge and skills, enabling children to access the wider curriculum, work collaboratively with others and make a positive contribution to the life of the school. Our curriculum will prepare children to be a global citizen in a diverse society and prepare them for the opportunities, responsibilities and experiences for later life.  They will do so with understanding and emotions to be able to play an active, positive and successful role within a global community. Our children will learn how to be safe, and to understand and develop healthy relationships, both now and in their future lives.  Discovery Education Health and Relationships is a digital PSHE programme covering the complete set of Relationships and Health Education objectives for primary schools. The curriculum promotes the spiritual, moral, cultural, mental and physical development of pupils through topics containing age-appropriate content that increases in complexity and maturity through the year groups, allowing pupils to build on their skills and understanding each year.  Living in the wider world is further addressed when topics relating to caring for the environment are developed in each year group using Telling Tales scheme.  In an ever–changing world, it is important that our children are aware, to an appropriate level, of different factors which will affect their world and that they learn how to deal with these so that they have good mental health and well-being.
