Rationale
At Bruce Grove Primary, we believe that a high-quality music education should engage and inspire pupils to develop a love of music and their talent as musicians, and so increase their self-confidence, creativity and sense of achievement. Our music lessons are delivered using the Charanga Musical School scheme. Each Unit of Work comprises the of strands of musical learning which correspond with the National Curriculum for music: listening and appraising, musical activities, warm-up games, singing, playing instruments, improvisation, composition and performing. We are devoted to ensuring children understand the value and importance of music in the wider community, and are able to use their musical skills, knowledge, and experiences to involve themselves in music, in a variety of different contexts. In Year 4, children begin to take clarinet or trumpet lessons from specialist teachers. Each term, their progress is celebrated in whole school recitals to which parents are also invited. Some children subsequently continue to learn these instruments in Years 5 and 6.
