This year we will be learning all about our class name 'Alexandra Palace'. Here is some interesting history about the building:
Alexandra Palace is a Grade II listed entertainment and sports venue in London, situated between Wood Green and Muswell Hill in the London Borough of Haringey. It is built on the site of Tottenham Wood and the later Tottenham Wood Farm. Originally built by John Johnson and Alfred Meeson, it opened in 1873 but following a fire two weeks after its opening, was rebuilt by Johnson. Intended as "The People's Palace" and often referred to as "Ally Pally", its purpose was to serve as a public centre of recreation, education and entertainment; North London's counterpart to the Crystal Palace in South London.
We will visit Alexandra Palace during spring term to see the amazing views of London as well as visit the park and the lake and have a nice picnic on the grass.
This week we have been learning about which animals hibernate and have read the story 'Don't Hog the Hedge'. Can you listen to the story at home and then answer these questions with your adult? The link for the story is underneath the questions below.
1. What type of animal is Hattie?
2. Where does Hattie the Hedgehog decide to hibernate at the beginning of the story?
3. Can you name some of the other animals that wanted to sleep in the hedge too?
4. How many dormice were in the story?
5. Which season did the animals hibernate in?
6. Why was Billy the Bat sad?
7. Why did the animals sleep in the cave at the end of the story?
We have been decorating biscuits with different faces - happy, sad, excited, surprised. We used icing to show these different emotions and talked about how we feel when we feel these emotions.
We all worked together to create our display about our class name 'Alexandra Palace'. Everyone helped to paint some flowers, the building and some birds too. We used lots of different colours and learned about mixing colours to make new colours such as as yellow and blue making green and red and blue making purple. We are very proud of our hard work and how we worked together as a team :)
