Day 1
The journey was smooth with little traffic. We arrived at 1.30pm to a warm welcome. The children were very impressed with the lush surroundings. After a brief tour of the site, they made their lunch and ate it in the garden. We all got kitted out with water proofs and Wellington boots then began the afternoon activity: bushcraft. In teams the children built shelters using branches, ferns, rope and tarpaulin. Each shelter was then tested to see if it could withstand the rain - a few got quite wet! Later we all had a go at making fire with flint and roasted sugared apples around the camp fire. They were quite tasty!
Day 2
The children took part in climbing and canoeing. Emotions were high with a mixture of fear, nervousness and excitement. The enormous climbing tower seemed insurmountable but working together and encouraging each other they climbed to increasing heights. Zip lining was fun and the children were keen to go again and again. In the afternoon, the children canoed in twos and threes. As the session went on, their skills improved greatly; going forwards, backwards and turning around. The day ended with some water games and a few brave souls sliding into the water.
Day 3 was River Study. We followed the journey of the River Melte from its beginnings as a small tributary; noticing as it got wider and the current got stronger. We then followed it as it went underground into caves! A scary moment. It was dark and cramped and the surface was uneven with shallow pools of water everywhere. After lunch, we followed the river to a waterfall and had a great deal of fun in the water. We had a relaxing evening in the common room.
Day 4 We walked from Langland to Caswell Bay along the coastal path. We ate our picnic before hitting the beach in the afternoon to catch some sea creatures from the rock pools. The children had so much fun!
Day 5
After a well-deserved early night, our eager young adventurers were up and ready for their grand finale: the Mountain Walk! With bags packed, and breakfast fuelled up, we were all set to embrace the beauty of nature one last time.
As we embark on this final activity, filled with anticipation and excitement, we explored stunning trails, learnt about local wildlife, and made unforgettable memories with friends. Their journey does not end here, as after a hearty lunch, we prepare for the journey back to Bruce Grove.
This week has been nothing short of spectacular: action-packed, fun-filled, and brimming with learning experiences. We are so proud of all our pupils for stepping out of their comfort zones and embracing new challenges!
