RE at Bruce Grove Primary
Rationale
Religious Education enables children to investigate and reflect on some of the fundamental questions asked by people. At Bruce Grove Primary, we aim to develop the children’s knowledge and understanding of the world’s major faiths and to address fundamental questions in life, for example, the meaning of life and belonging. We enable children to develop a sound knowledge not only of Christianity, but other world religions, especially those that are the main faiths of children at our school. Children reflect on what it means to have faith and develop their spiritual knowledge and understanding. We help children learn from religion as well as about religion.
At present, Bruce Grove are combining the SACRE curriculum with the Haringey Educational Partnership (HEP) Religious Studies curriculum. This is a programme of study designed to create a cohesive approach between all Humanities subjects within the curriculum. The benefits of this will produce cross curricular links and chronology of historical and geographical events, that will embed learning and meaning to an optimal degree. The HEP curriculum content covers the same objectives and content specified by SACRE; although, it is covered in a slightly different configuration and with additional coverage of religious foundation stories and texts. Further learning opportunities continue to be available through links with PSHE and whole school assemblies.
