Teacher:Ms Devicka Chauhan

Nursery practitioner: Sally Hughes

Teaching Assistant: Barbara Watson

This year each class have been paired with an author and the nursery's author is Eric Carle. Over the term we will be learning all about our chosen author so please keep an eye on all the exciting things we do.
Eric Carle, (born June 25, 1929, Syracuse, New York, U.S.), American writer and illustrator of children's literature who published numerous best-selling books, among them The Very Hungry Caterpillar (1969), which by 2018 had sold some 50 million copies and had been translated into more than 60 languages.

We also made some Indian shortbread for Diwali.

Rangoli patterns using wooden shapes.

We found a worm at the bottom of the garden!

Spaghetti fun!

We found a beautiful butterfly in our garden. It was a red admiral.

Some jelly fun! Can you spot the spiders?

Alma Woodsey Thomas(1891-1978)

For Black History Month we looked at the art of Alma Thomas. She was an important role model for women, African-American artists, and older artists (she was recognized for her paintings after her retirement from teaching).  She was also the first African-American woman to have a solo exhibition of her work at New York’s Whitney Museum of American Art. Alma Thomas loved to smile and she liked to paint with bright colours. Primary colours were often used in her artwork to make her paintings look happy and vibrant. Thomas brings art for kids by inspiring them to look closely at nature and to use patterns and colours to create art that makes them happy.
