Welcome back to the new academic year. This year our class is named after landmarks around the UK. We are named after Hampton Court Palace. For the first few weeks we will be looking at the history of Hampton Court.
Here a five interesting facts about Hampton Court Palace
1. A Giant Kitchen: Hampton Court Palace has one of the largest kitchens in the world. In the past, they used to cook for hundreds of people every day! Imagine how big the pots and pans must have been to make all that food for the kings and queens.
2. The Famous Maze: The palace has a maze made of tall hedges that you can get lost in! It's like a giant puzzle. People have been trying to find their way out of the maze for hundreds of years. Can you solve the maze?
3. Ghost Stories: Hampton Court Palace is often considered one of the most haunted places in England. One of the most famous ghostly sightings is that of Catherine Howard, Henry VIII's fifth wife, who was accused of treason. Visitors and staff have reported seeing her ghost running through the gallery, screaming for mercy. Spooky, right?
4. Beautiful Gardens: The palace has really pretty gardens with colourful flowers, fountains, and even a playground. It's a great place to run around and have fun outdoors. You might even see some ducks swimming in the ponds!
5. Grand Tapestries: Inside the palace, there are huge tapestries on the walls. These are like giant woven pictures that tell stories. They're so big and detailed that they can take years to make. You can imagine the stories coming to life as you look at them.
