5F - Brixton

Class Teacher: Mrs Jan Finisterre-Martin

Teaching Assistant: Ms Kasia Zimolag

Welcome to 5F

This year all the class names are based on a station on the Victoria line.

We are Brixton class. At the beginning of the academic year the children learnt about famous landmarks situated in Brixton, as well as celebrities who were born or lived there, like the late David Bowie, Former Prime Minister John Major and Sharon Osbourne.

The children made models similar to Brixton Windmill and they wrote interesting poems about the vibrant and eclectic Brixton Village.

We plan on visiting Brixton later on in the year.

5F Class Assembly

12th October 2018

The children had lots of fun performing their class assembly on 'The Vikings' to the whole school and their parents.

Class trip to The Royal Gunpowder Mills 28th September 2018

We visited the Royal Gunpowder Mills in Waltham Abbey, Essex, as part of our History topic on the Vikings. After a train ride, two bus journeys and lots of walking, we took part in several interactive workshops led by enthusiastic and informative guides. We learnt about the Vikings' way of life; what they ate, how they dressed, their language, their armor, the role they played in British history and what a Viking longhouse entailed. Additionally, we each made a Viking long ship, after hearing about the importance the River Lea played during the Viking raid when King Alfred reigned. The chidren in 5F even took part in a Viking quest to find Viking runes across the compound! It was definitely worth the visit!

Have a look at some of the pictures below.

5F enjoyed learning even more about the Vikings during our trip to Bruce Castle Museum. We explored Viking artefacts and made our own Viking swords and shields which we took back to school and used as props in our class assembly. Some are also on display in our classroom. The children are excited to complete their personal Viking helmets which they're making in Design and Technology on Monday afternoons!
